Today, August 8th, we celebrate Bee Day – a special holiday dedicated to these incredibly important insects. Due to our research interests, we focus in particular on one of the most well-known and valued bees – the honey bee.

The honey bee is a crucial part of our ecosystem. Its role in pollinating plants cannot be overstated. In addition to their role in pollination, honey bees produce honey, pollen, propolis, beeswax, and royal jelly. Honey is not only a healthy addition to our diet but also has numerous medicinal properties, from antibacterial to anti-inflammatory. Bee pollen is a true vitamin bomb, while beeswax is used in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

Unfortunately, honey bees are threatened by many factors, such as pesticides. Each of us can help – by planting bee-friendly flowers, avoiding the use of pesticides in our gardens, or supporting local beekeepers. Bee Day is an excellent opportunity to remind ourselves how important these insects are for us. We encourage everyone to get to know honey bees better and to join actions aimed at protecting them.
